It Started With a Kidnapped Pig...
Westwood forest is located south of the logging town of Kheldell. Its said that this forest used to extend easterly to the High Forest, north to the city of Yartar, to the Delimbiyr Route in the south, and along the Sword Mountain range in the west. If this is true, Westwood once stood as proud and as large as the
High Forest of today. Some sages believe this forests been shrinking since the destruction of Netheril.
A tangled and varied forest cloaking the eastern foothills of the Sword Mountains, these woods are home to a shrine to Meilikki, several woodcutters’ camps that are often taken over forcibly for a season (usually winter) or a few months at a time by bandits – and a few overgrown ruins of the ancient elven kingdom of Rilithar. It’s said that this forest used to extend easterly to the High Forest, north to the city of Yartar, to the Delimbiyr Route in the south, and along the Sword Mountain range in the west. If this is true, Westwood once stood as proud and as large as the High Forest of today. Some sages believe this forest has been shrinking since the destruction of the ancient human empire of Netheril.
Local legend claims that the ruins of an elven castle stand in a dell at the heart of the Westwood. Much magic exists in the ruins, and theyre supposedly haunted by owlbears and wild trees (probably evil treants preying on intruders). The way is best sought at night, for the route from Kheldell is marked by ancient spells that cause floating moonglow symbols to shine in the darkness. Sages speculate the elven castle was part of the old elven realm of Rilithar.
Shrine of Mielikki
Mielikki is venerated at a hidden shrine in Westwood, and only rangers or clerics of Mielikki are guided to her temple. Its said those who kneel and place fermented seed or newly sprouted oak trees at the altar are rewarded with a healing, neutralize poison, or remove curse spell (whichever is most needed). Those of evil alignmentor who venerate evil deitiesthat kneel at the altar are cursed with either a curse, a reversed neutralize poison, or a reversed cure critical wounds spell (whichever is most dangerous).
The Dusk Circle
The druids who look after Westwood are known as the Dusk Circle. They are led by three archdruids – Khrymn Audark, the oldest elf anyone had ever seen, the middle aged human Amdan with his pale, cat like eyes, and the youngest looking of the three, the elf Embrae, so wild looking with her crazy hair and painted face it was whispered that she had been raised by wolves, or that she was actually inhabited by a wolf spirit. The druids oversee the loggers and hunters from Kheldell, direct them where they can cut and hunt. The folk of Kheldell plant more trees than they cut, slowly extending the forest under the direction of the druids of the Dusk Circle.
The Dusk Circle do not interfere when the bandits take over the woodcutters camps, but enforce the same rules, and the bandits who stay there and survive know it.
Recently, a roving band of Elk tribe barbarians (see the Uthgardt wiki entry) have come to Westwood. They forcibly evicted the bandits from the innermost woodcutters’ camps, then camped there themselves to explore and hunt in Westwood.
